Spiritualists practice a form of hands-on healing called (big shocker here) Spiritual Healing. It’s a relaxing, completely safe, beautiful experience.
Whenever I get the chance, I hop onto the healing bench at a Spiritualist church. Hopefully, I remember to bring tissues as it usually releases something within me that needs a few tears in order to come out.
What is Spiritual Healing?
Spiritual Healing is a form of energy healing, in which the healer allows divine energy to flow through them and into the receiver or client, clearing blockages and injuries, reducing pain and relieving distress. It functions on every level you care to classify — physical, emotional, mental, spiritual.
How does Spiritual Healing work?
Spiritual Healing is considered to be a gift that certain Spiritualist mediums have. It’s a gift “exercised by and through the direction and influence of excarnate spiritual beings for the relief, cure and healing of both mental and physical diseases of humankind.” (NSAC Spiritualist Manual, p.46)
What does that mean — excarnate spiritual beings? What?
Spiritual influences work through the medium or healer’s body, infusing the client’s body with curative, stimulating and vitalizing energy. In terms of the physical manifestation of illness, the healer is often able to feel and understand the cause, nature and location of disease within the client’s body.
What basis does Spiritual Healing have?
Spiritual Healing is well known throughout many religions. Spiritualism points to the Bible and the many times Jesus healed the sick with the touch of his hands and his connection to the divine force within all of us.
I’m not much of a Bible quoter (except for paraphrasing Jesus’ “this you shall do and more”), but here are some quotes extracted from the NSAC Spiritualist manual:
“They shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.” Mark XVI-18
“And Jesus put forth his hand and touched him–and immediately his leprosy was cleansed.” Matt. VIII-3
Jesus healed by magnetic touch: “and the whole multitude sought to touch him; for there went virtue out of him and healed them all.” Luke VI-19
What does Spiritual Healing feel like?
Generally, a Spiritual Healing session feels wonderful and relaxing. Sometimes emotions come up, and that’s OK. It means that areas of your body or heart are being reached which need to clear out energy and release what’s been stored.
Sometimes you may feel more hands than the healer physically has. These are spirit healers working with you and the healer. It’s a pretty cool experience.
During my last Spiritual Healing, at Lily Dale Assembly in New York, I distinctly felt several pairs of hands on my body, in addition to the healer’s, and the presence of my mother, who’s in Spirit.
Often, during healing sessions with clients, I sense the presence of their loved one who uses the healing as an opportunity to step in and experience the sensation of being able to physically touch the person here on Earth. In those cases, it becomes a healing experience for both you and for your loved one in Spirit. I remain in control of and aware of my physical body the whole time, but with the added connection of your loved one.
Is it the same as other forms of energy healing, like Reiki?
I’m also a Reiki Master and use both Reiki energy and Spiritualist healing energy in my healing sessions. The energy is very similar, although not quite the same, but they work well together. I can best describe the difference as being a slightly different frequency on the same energy band (a bit like similar but slightly different radio stations on the FM band).
Do I have to take my clothes off?
Nope! Spiritual Healing is usually done seated in a chair or on a bench. I use either a massage chair or table, depending on where I’m working. The healer gently places their hands on your head, neck, back, shoulders, arms, knees and feet — or sometimes just your head and shoulders, depending on your comfort level (and the Spiritualist church they’ve been trained through).
It’s truly a pleasant and relaxing experience, one where you feel better when you’ve finished then you did when you first sat down.
I’ve been reading several articles on eugenemedium.com.
